Unicorn Theatre

The Garbage King was a new play, adapted by Oladipo Agboluaje, from Elizabeth Laird’s award-winning novel set in Ethiopia. It tells the story of two very different boys, Mamo and Dani, and takes us from the busy streets of the capital city, Addis Ababa, to an isolated farm in the Ethiopian countryside, from sheltered gardens full of flowers to the dark corners of the city’s biggest cemetery where children on the run find shelter.

The Garbage King is a gritty, deeply-moving story that shows how the human spirit can triumph in the harshest of worlds.

Directed by Rosamunde Hutt, Associate Artistic Director at the Unicorn, it was produced in the Weston Theatre at the Unicorn in the autumn of 2010.
